Charlotte company, Britax Child Safety Inc., has announced a safety recall involving 55,455 convertible car seats sold in the United States. Britax has received reports of children biting and gagging on small pieces of the HUGS (Harness Ultra-Guard System) pads connected to the harness straps on the car seat, which may present a choking hazard, especially in infants. Owners of affected car seats are urged to remove HUGS pads until they receive a replacement pad.

Models that have been recalled include the Britax Boulevard 70-G3, Advocate 70-G3, and Pavilion 70-G3 convertible car seats that were manufactured between June 2012 and August 2012. Those same models that were manufactured outside of those dates are not included.

Britax is providing affected consumers with a kit containing more durable replacement pads that can be installed on the harness straps.
